McCain vs. NFL

In another display of amazing timing, the Republican National Convention has a major opponent:

The NFL.

With more supporters than McCain, Obama, sliced bread, and beer combined, the NFL is McCain's REAL media juggernaut.

The season opening game is on NBC at 7 tonight. While the RNC is trying to make its case for its newly revitalized McCain/Palin ticket, I know that my Democratic behind will be sitting watching the Giants vs. the Redskins.

I am torn about it though.

My love for football and lifelong Skins fan-dom is clashing directly with my Washingtonian zest for political crack.

But I know that tonight's proceedings at the RNC will not top the DNC's Thursday night, prime time show. Nor will it top last night's Palin speech, where many people tuned in to see what the hell she'd say, how sh'e'd look, if she had the balls (metaphorically of course) to attack the Democrats, and whether she would parade her prego daughter around the stage like the political puppet she aspires to be.

And she did.

So that being said, it's game on for both sides. Tonight's speech will be about shoring up the base even more, an attempt at getting the vanilla Republican masses excited for a ticket they almost couldn't stomach more than a month ago, and regurgitating a lot of the same policies and stump speeches that have been farted out over the last few months by McCain.

And as excited as I get for politics, Eli Manning in spandex is way more exciting than McCain in a suit any day.

I mean, he can lift his arms over his head.

Sorry, was that mean?
